After the explosive success of Pokemon Go, it is now the most downloaded app in the world and has overtaken Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram & Twitter in terms of daily time spent on these apps. Are Pokemon Go & Augmented Reality the future of recruitment? What about other technology trends in the future of recruitment?
Recently new technological trends have emerged as alternative ways of recruiting that engages top talent. We look at the different digital technologies that are established or are starting to be used in recruitment.
Are Pokemon Go & Augmented Reality The Future of Recruitment?
Augmented Reality
As Pokemon Go has shown us, this type of technology has the ability to hold the attention of millions of people globally and not just young people. 40% of Pokemon Go adult users are 25 or older, according to data from StartApp.
Within the world of recruitment, Augmented Reality allows users to work in teams on their mobile devices. This is useful for recruiters when assessing candidates abilities to work in teams and to test their collaborative skills.
Virtual Office Tours
Companies can now attract the best talent by showing candidates a virtual tour of their office. This can help candidates decide if they want to commit to applying for a role.
If clients have an exciting, attractive office, for example companies such as Google or Lego that have ping pong tables, then it makes sense to use this type of technology to attract the very best candidates. Virtual office tours can also give candidates an insight into your company culture. Finding a candidate who fits into your company culture is important for long-term retention of staff.
Gamification
Gaming is huge in the UK with 57% of the population involved in gaming on a regular basis. Gamification in recruitment is the process of using games to test candidates’ aptitude for a role and is now a well established practice in the industry. This type of technology is already being used successfully by a number of companies such as Lloyds Banking Group, Uber, Google, Deloitte and KPMG.
Gamification can speed up the hiring process, expand the talent pool that you have applying for your roles and engage candidates in a way they can relate to.
Formapost, the French postal service, is using gamification to increase staff retention. Their online game allows users to ‘live’ a week in the life of a Formapost employee. New hire drop-out rate has reduced from 25% to 8% since introducing the game.
GCHQ, the British intelligence and security agency, has created a game called CanYouCrackIt. They are using it as part of their recruitment process. Wannabe spies have to crack the code and decipher the hidden message to progress through the application process. Candidates get a chance to see if they have the skills for the job in a fun process while GCHQ reduce their time spent weeding out unsuitable candidates.
Wearables
Fitbit & Apple Watch are two examples of popular wearables that help to gather data on the wearer. In the hiring process wearables can be used to identify candidates’ responses to stress in various scenarios.
This technology can be useful in determining the suitability of candidates for roles where employees are required to have low stress responses and are able to handle stress effectively.
These technologies look set to enhance future recruitment processes with benefits for both companies and candidates.
